Our Faith and Our Everyday Issues

In Mark 10:46-52, we read about blind Bartimaeus. We learn that the son of Timaeus had 2 issues, even 3. We will look at the first 2. He was 1. Blind, physically disabled, and 2. Poor, economically challenged. For those of you who like to dig deeper, he was the son of someone also disabled, making these matters hereditary.

Sickness

Some of us are dealing with physical disabilities, illnesses, diseases, or the like. Some of us are blind spiritually. Some of us are visually impaired concerning God and His plan for our lives. The physical need was a valid issue for Bartimaeus that we too, can relate to.

Money

The second issue was economical. He was begging. He didn't have money. How many of us can relate to some type of economic hardship or bind? Similarly, the woman with the issue of blood also had the same 2 issues. These issues led to isolation and being ostracized in the public eye. There are times, when, even if others don't treat us differently, we may feel isolated and ostracized due to what we're experiencing in our lives. Thank God, that the Father never leaves us, nor does He forsake us.

Go Where You Hear Jesus

Bartimaeus heard about Jesus and began to cry out. He heard Jesus. He was desperate and in need, and he cried for mercy. He didn't say, "I'm blind, I'm poor," he cried, "have mercy on me". His cry was for help and compassion. Even blind, he knew to seek Jesus. Blind and spiritually, he called for help and compassion. His soul cried out.

He was told to be quiet and cried more. How many times have you told yourself not to bother Jesus? Maybe you busy yourself praying for others and don't pray for yourself. How many people have said to you, "I don't what to tell you about that"? How many times have your issues been met with rejection, blank stares or worse, silence?

I Want to See!

Bartimaeus was persistent. Faith is persistent. Faith takes us to the finish line. His cries caught Jesus' attention. Christ call him to come. When he's called he throws off his garment (what once served as protection, a safety net, the familiar, what he relied on) and goes to Jesus. Jesus asks, "what do you want me to do for you?" With Jesus' attention, Bartimaeus is able to make his request known, "I want to see".

From Faith to Transfomation

Jesus answers his prayer, "Go, your faith has made you whole". His faith has saved him. Bartimaeus receives the blessing and immediately follows Jesus. His faith changes his position from begging on the side of the road to walking with Jesus. He goes from a life of brokenness, shame, disappointment, begging, blindness and sin to walking with Jesus. He now has hope, faith and life.

Like this account of Bartimaeus, faith shifts the scenery of our lives. Faith will produce physical healing, mental healing and ultimately transformation. Our faith opens the door for us to walk with Jesus, the Restorer. Make your faith loud! Cry out to the God of our salvation. Let God restore you today because of your faith in Him. Our faith in Him today will lead to our transformation.
